Study Finds Most Weight Loss Supplements Are Not Effective
|

Many people constantly seek the easiest methods that they can find to lose weight. For example, they tend to grab the latest shiny magic pill in the market to achieve weight loss. A
study conducted by an Oregon State University researcher confirms that "no research evidence exists that any single product results in significant weight loss". In fact, many of these weight loss supplements have detrimental health benefits. Researcher Melinda Manore revealed that some of the products such as green tea, fiber, and low-fat dairy supplements can produce a modest weight loss of about three to four pounds. However, it is important to note that most of the supplements were tested while people in the studies were part of a reduced calorie diet.
"Manore looked at supplements that fell into four categories: products such as chitosan that block absorption of fat or carbohydrates, stimulants such as caffeine or ephedra that increase metabolism, products such as conjugated linoleic acid that claim to change the body composition by decreasing fat, and appetite suppressants such as soluble fibers."
The researcher revealed that many of these so-called weight loss supplements did not have randomized clinical trials to examine their effectiveness. She added that for any weight loss supplement to have a significant impact, you have to adjust your diet and get daily exercises.
"The data is very strong that exercise is crucial to not only losing weight and preserving muscle mass, but keeping the weight off."
Exercising is not only important in maintaining
muscle mass and losing weight, but also ensure
you do not gain unnecessary weight. The only way
to lose weight is by changing your lifestyle
especially the eating habits and routine
exercises. Changing the eating habits involves
reduced eating of high fat foods, eating lots of
fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean meat.
In addition, increasing your protein intake may
also be beneficial especially for those who do
not want to lose lean tissue.
